THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LGBTQ+ PEOPLE IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHS-
JOIN US AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX FOR TALKS BY LGBTQ+ SCIENTISTS
JULY 5TH, 2018 #LGBTSTEMDAY
On 5 July we will celebrate LGBT STEM day, the first international day of LGBTQ+ people in science, technology, engineering and math. LGBTQ+ people in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) continue to struggle to openly be themselves (see: 2013 Queer in STEM survey, 2014 Factors Impacting The Academic Climate, 2015 American Physical Society survey). This day is a celebration of LGBTQ+ people in STEM, and we hope to increase support and awareness.
We are organizing a Science Showcase at the University of Sussex, an afternoon of talks by LGBTQ+ scientists. We would like to feature scientists from any discipline within STEM and at any level (from students up to PIs). We will welcome short flashtalks (5 minutes) as well as longer talks (15 minutes). The talks should be suitable for a general audience.
